Purpose of role

We are seeking a dynamic and dedicated Technical Engineer to join our team (Skilled Engineering Level 2 (ENG2). This role will involve technical activities related to upgrading and optimizing HVAC systems, with a focus on upgrading Air Handling Units (AHUs) to EC (Electronically Commutated) fans and optimizing other system components, including Chilled Water (CHW), Low-Pressure Hot Water (LPHW), Direct Expansion (DX) systems, and run-around coils. A key part of the role will also involve taking airflows and pressures on AHUs to ensure proper system performance and optimization. Description

Roles and responsibilities

  • Lead and manage the technical design of AHUs to EC fans, as well as other HVAC system optimizations such as CHW, LPHW, DX systems, and run-around coils to improve energy efficiency, system performance, and sustainability.
  • Measure and record airflows and pressures on AHUs to ensure system performance meets design specifications and optimize overall efficiency.
  • Convert onsite solutions into clear, actionable drawings and technical documentation for site teams to follow during installation and maintenance.
  • Collaborate with internal teams (design engineers, operation engineers, purchasers) and external stakeholders (clients, suppliers, contractors) to support HVAC system upgrades, installation, and maintenance.
  • Troubleshoot and solve technical challenges related to HVAC upgrades, including AHU fan conversions and optimization of CHW, LPHW, DX, and run-around coils.
  • Evaluate and implement energy-efficient technologies and solutions across HVAC systems to meet sustainability targets.
  • Provide technical advice and support to internal teams and external clients regarding system upgrades and performance enhancements.
  • Conduct site surveys and design reviews to ensure HVAC systems meet performance and regulatory requirements.
  • Assist in the development of long-range plans for new HVAC projects and facility upgrades.

What We’re Looking For:

  • Strong technical expertise in HVAC systems, including experience with upgrading AHUs to EC fans, and optimizing CHW, LPHW, DX, and run-around coils.
  • Experience in measuring and analysing airflows and pressures on AHUs to assess and improve system performance.
  • Proficiency in converting onsite solutions into accurate technical drawings and documentation for site teams.
  • Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving skills for a wide range of HVAC system components.
  • Knowledge of energy-efficient technologies and sustainability-focused HVAC solutions.
  • Solid understanding of health and safety regulations within the HVAC industry.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to quickly adapt to new technologies and industry trends, particularly in energy efficiency.
  • A proactive, collaborative approach to working within teams, with the ability to manage tasks under pressure.
  • Experience in providing training or mentoring to colleagues is desirable.
