Summary

Purpose of role

Ability to supervise and motivate a team, demonstrating correct behaviours and discipline, working to strict safety and quality requirements, to support the effective co-ordination, planning and productivity of the Manufacturing schedules to achieve daily production requirements throughout assembly to meet customer expectations, optimising efficiency and maintaining operational excellence. To contribute towards the Manufacturing Strategy. Safety – Productivity – Quality – Cost.

Roles and Responsibilities:

Key responsibility: 

  • Develop & promote a culture of safety first. 
  • Develop & promote a Quality culture. 
  • Lead and develop the manufacturing teams, monitoring KPI’s and setting goals & objectives to support Safety first, improved Productivity, Best Quality at a reduced Cost & support personal development & skills training. 
  • Support leadership by ensuring resources are optimized and in place to meet manufacturing demand and on time delivery of operational plans, reacting quickly to changes in demand or resources. 

Safety

Ensure full compliance with health and safety regulations and policies, operating best practice methods and driving a “Safety starts with me culture” through all including but not exhaustive of: 

  • Ensuring Risk assessment are conducted & regularly maintained. 
  • Planned safety talks are delivered to teams. 
  • Safety investigations completed on time. 
  • All goods are stored safely and always handled appropriately. 
  • Support with planned maintenance and inspection all plant  
  • Ongoing training is applied to yourself and others to enhance safety standards. 

 

  • Operating within a manufacturing environment, assisting all operators with product safety & construction guidelines whilst ensuring they conform to our standard operating procedures and policies. 
  • Approach any visitors to the Shopfloor to offer assistance, where required. 
  • Ensure all tools and working areas are respected and maintained, kept clean and tidy and free from hazards through audits. 

 

Quality

  • Ensure manufacturing compliance with engineering standards, tolerances, policy & processes. 
  • Drive best practice methods and continuous improvement to enhance manufacturing quality. 
  • Develop and maintain competency-based employee assessments and training programs. 
  • Conduct regulatory quality-based toolbox talks. 
  • Ensure incoming goods meet appropriate standards through inspection. (Qty, quality and specification) & report defects through DOR quality App & communication & escalation process 
  • Ensure all products and materials are stored appropriately to prevent deterioration. 
  • To assist and offer technical support to manufacturing operatives, able to offer advice on problem solving to effectively lessen impact to on time delivery at best quality. 
  • Ensure accurate communication with all relevant departments on any factors which will impact on operational plans, delivery targets and quality to our clients. 

 

Productivity

  • Be responsible for the delivery of the operational plan within the 5-day window. 
  • Be responsible for resource planning and effective deployment of staff within the 5-day window. 
  • Adopt and implement lean manufacturing principles to enhance product throughput and eliminate waste.
  • Manage manufacturing performance to enhance performance levels inclusive of: 
  • Delivery performance focus on time in Full 
  • Drive continuous improvement to establish effective and efficient manufacturing methods. 
  • Communicate and effectively manage staff movements, absence & leave. 
  • Ensure the manufacturing WorkCentre groups reflect the physical state through Production order control, status, and traffic light system, ensuring hours of work are posted accurately daily.  
  • Hold staff monthly 1-2-1’s, ensuring all staff are clear on daily objectives, performance and priorities set out within the onboarding & personal development plan.

 

Cost Control

  • Improve operating efficiency to reduce waste and maximize output. 
  • Assist in removing nonvalue add activities.
  • Eradicate rework through best practice and continuous improvement. 
  • Ensure preservation of goods through appropriate storage. 
  • Assist in reduction of manufacturing rework and scrap. 
  • Support in driving cost reductions through manufacturing operations.

 

 

 

Appendix 1 – Fire warden 

As a Fire Warden, your day-to-day responsibilities revolve around minimising the risk of fire. You will:

  • Be proactive in identifying and reporting fire hazards to the Fire Marshall and promoting fire risk awareness amongst your colleagues and encouraging fire-safe behavior.  
  • Lead by example and remain calm and collected under pressure and have excellent communication skills.  
  • Be polite and reassuring but authoritative when needed to safeguard those in your zone and guide them to safety via the designated exits.  

 

Appendix 2 – First aider 

As a First aider you are responsible for the immediate help given to someone who is ill or injured. A first aider gives this immediate help to the casualty, while making sure that the casualty and those around the casualty (including themselves) are safe.
